LOVE ONE ANOTHER. If your home is a war zone and you have prayed for years, get help and/or get out. Your children will not thrive and learn to love if their parents are constantly at war. I disagree with recent studies that staying together "for the children" is better for them. "God hath called us to peace." (1 Cor. 7:15)
Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure (2 Sam. 23:5).
You have all the tools you need, with the Bible as your guidebook. Yet, if you still feel yours is a hopeless case, consider the above Scripture magnifying the covenant that we can stand firmly upon, no matter how many mistakes we have made. Dig into His word, believe and stand on His promises. God is Love: He is faithful and kind. His character and the good that he wants to do for us really doesn't depend on what we have or haven't done. He always makes a way of escape, and surrounds us with His songs of deliverance. He is always willing to teach us and guide us in our parenting. (Easy Homeschooling Companion)

SPEAK CLEARLY. Life speech skills will be formed by your early example.READ ALOUD. All of education centers around comprehension, which begins by this simple activity.
You do not need to spend a lot of money to start your homeschool. Even if you have more than enough money, you should still watch your pennies, because 1) many of the items purchased are unnecessary, 2) too many items are purchased and not used and 3) having more than you need will cause stress as you attempt to use everything you have purchased. Extra items can be resold, but usually for only a fraction of what you paid for them. (Easy Homeschooling Techniques.)

GOD FIRST. Bible, Prayer, Discussion.
READING.
READING ALOUD.
WRITING.
The earliest American schools had two textbooks. They used the Bible for history, literature, spelling, science, grammar and reading; and a hymnal for music reading, singing and writing music. Read at least one chapter a day from the Bible to even your youngest child so that their foundation is made sure. They will begin to learn morals, character and many other important things (see Chapter 8, "Training for Eternity"). Using the King James Version of the Bible will also give them a very strong start in English skills. (Easy Homeschooling Techniques)

MARRIAGE PREP. Have your students study, report on books such as Avoiding Mr. Wrong. They should make lists describing their ideal mate and pray, far in advance, about this critical life choice.
READ AND REPORT ON THE CLASSICS.
Literature magnifies the writer-his or her character, nationality and passions. The best literature for a Christian is that written by a Christian, or at least by an author with a Christian or Biblical world view.
It would take a book to list suitable authors. I have one planned. In the meantime, consider Americans such as Franklin, Irving, Bryant, Webster, Everett, Longfellow, Hawthorne, Whittier, Emerson, Holmes, Lowell, Thoreau, O'Reilly and Twain.
Some well-known British authors are Shakespeare, Milton and the poet, Edmund Spenser. His work, The Faerie Queene (1590) was written to inspire men and boys to greatness. In it, knights represent virtues such as holiness, temperance, charity, friendship, justice and courtesy and fight their opposing vices. Written in Early Middle English, the primary difference from today's language is the spelling. (Easy Homeschooling Companion)
