Fields with God - The Lost Articles Sometimes it's Fall

Life isn't always fun and exciting and warm and interesting.

Sometimes it's Fall.

Fall was always a dreaded season to me, bringing "back-to-school," dull colors and deadness. Changes that I didn't like. I still don't.

Sometimes it's Fall.

But even in the drabness and coldness of Fall, sometimes the sun shines. It is warming me now as I sit in this hidden gulch.

Although Zephi is moving out tomorrow, my sons are still here. Although we have obstacles in our lives, God can give us victory. He is the Son shining on us, yes, even during our "Falls."

Killbuck, Ohio

We drove into Amish country on a misty morning at sunrise. Hundreds of cars were coming toward us going to their city jobs. As we neared Killbuck, we passed two buggies. The first was driven by a female wrapped head to toe in the typical black. Fog covered the deep valley.

Life in the Fast Lane 10/5/03

West of Columbus, Ohio, returning to Nebraska, after Jessica's wedding.

Life in the Fast Lane. We've all heard this term. "We are so busy." "We just don't have time for _____ or _____."

I think we all need to reexamine our priorities and perhaps rearrange our lives. Let's drive in the slow lane more often. Take the scenic route. Don't over schedule or under schedule. Let your commitments be the most important ones of family, home and church. Get involved but do not over commit, especially if you have a family. One ministry, one day a week, is enough. If we all did this, there would be no lack of Christian workers.

Prayer Makes a Difference

Eldest's wedding trip - happy family time.

No sadness for me! I had cried at least three days before leaving Nebraska, but didn't shed a tear after I left. Friends prayed! We had a good time! All went beautifully - "like a dream" (the bride), "she should be on the next Bride's cover" (a guest). "I don't know who is the best-looking couple, the bride and groom or her parents!" (another guest).

For me, the focus on God that Jessica and Wesley planned, kept me far above sadness. The song "Only Imagine," turned my heart heavenward - away from the moment's ceremony, upward to an eternal "moment" with Christ forever. "Eye hath not seen."

He Loves Me

As I survey the panorama of fall beauty from my back porch, it hits me. It doesn't depend on what I've done or not done! (Guilt be gone forever!) It doesn't matter how perfectly I walk in His spirit.

He loves me.

Just as I am, He loves me - not because of what I'm striving for in my walk. Even if I have failed in areas and never changed (yet!), He loves me. No matter what expectations others have of me, He loves me just as I am.

He loves me.

He doesn't push me to change my God-given personality. No! He made me just as I am and He loves me just as I am.

The Sabbath

The Sabbath was made for man.

Silence! It is so, so dear to me.

This day is a special one in July. It is temperate - perfect in comfort. Cloud cover brings a sense of coolness.

Can we look at "cloud cover" as a relief from heat? Aren't some of the quiet, slightly gray days better than burning "fire" days? We always have much to thank our God for. We are so blessed!

Birds, bees and wind sing in agreement. "Let everything that hath breath, praise the Lord." Wildflowers nod their heads in rhythmic assent. The creek gurgles its praise too! Clouds smile down on the scene. His creations praise Him.

It is well with my soul.
